Are you feeling sluggish? Kind of drained of energy and weighed down? Your diet could be the culprit in this scenario. Read on to learn about a healthy 30 day detox to get you in your groove again!
Feeling Worn Out
Sometimes your body gets to a point where it just does not want to work anymore. You can feel tired, run down, and slow. Maybe you’ve lost the ability to concentrate or focus. You lack energy and motivation.
You should take a look at your diet. Now, understand that the term, “diet,” refers to the way that you eat and the foods that you eat, not necessarily that you’re “on a diet.”
Foods That Slow You Down
There are foods out there that actually slow down your metabolism. This will cause symptoms like fatigue, listlessness, low energy, and inability to concentrate.
These foods include processed foods, fast food, high-fat-high-sodium foods, and refined sugars and grains. If your diet contains a lot of these items, it’s time to re-think things and try a 30 day detox.
30 Day Detox
I’ll break this down for you so it doesn’t seem so daunting of a task. If you take it steps, it will be easier on your body to detox from the foods you’ve gotten used to eating.
Start by eliminating fast food from your diet. We have seen a trend of fast food companies trying to offer healthier choices. Don’t be fooled by items that seem healthy when they’re actually not. Check the nutrition facts.
A lot of the time you will find that fast food salads that are advertised as healthy, have just as much fat and sodium as their burger counterparts. Be careful if you have no choice but to go out. All restaurants are required to provide nutrition facts, so consult them.
Remove the sweet stuff from your pantry. Clear out your desk at work. Get rid of the candy, cookies, and other treats. This isn’t forever. Eventually you can have a treat ONCE in a while. As a good professor of mine once said, “Moderation is KEY!”
High-fat foods will slow down your metabolism. It takes the body longer to digest fats, so everything slows down while you work on digestion. Get rid of the fried foods, the rich oils, mayonnaise, butter, and chips.
Opt for baked items, unsaturated oils like olive oil and canola oil, low-fat or fat free mayo, and popcorn.
These are the foods that come in boxes, ready to make. Hamburger Helper? Throw it out! Pasta Roni? Get rid of it! Instant Mashed Potatoes? Well, if they’re plain you can keep them. It’s the flavored ones that have the bad stuff!
So, now that you’ve purged your pantry of all the bad stuff, it’s time to restock with the good stuff!
Fresh Fruits and Vegetables
Keep plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables with you at all times. Carrot and celery sticks. Cucumbers. Apple slices. Berries. Oranges. Fresh cut melon. These are all great items to snack on any time of the day.
Try dipping your veggies into hummus (we like to mix plain hummus with sriracha…it’s amazing!). One of my favorite snacks is cucumber spears dipped in hummus.
The general rule of thumb is “eat the rainbow” for your full scale of vitamins and minerals each day. Try to eat something of every color from the fruits and veggies.
Switch out your white rice for brown rice or quinoa. Quinoa is great hot OR cold. Make a batch of quinoa and let it cool, then add thawed frozen corn kernels, chopped grape tomatoes, diced cucumber, and fresh chopped kale. Toss in some olive oil and your favorite vinegar and you have an amazing grains salad!
If quinoa is not your thing, you can do the same with brown rice.
Days 17-30 (and beyond!)
By now you should be a professional clean eater. Keep it up!
Fresh, Clean Foods
Keep eating fresh clean foods on this 30 day detox. You Don’t even have to stop there. Keep going for as long as you want. By day 17, you should be feeling your energy return.

Lots of Water!
Throughout the 30 day detox, you should be drinking plenty of water. No soda, limit caffeine, and steer away from processed juices. You know that coffee you buy at Starbuck’s every day? Skip it for now. You’ll thank me later!
