What are Goji Berries?

Goji Berries, also referred to as Lycium Barbarum or Wolfberries, is a brightly colored fruit that is native to Asia and has been used as a medicinal herb and food for over 2,000 years, with the first recorded use of the fruit being in 250 B.C. Goji berries are high in several vitamins and minerals such as Vitamin C, Vitamin A, Fiber, Iron, Zinc, Protein and Antioxidants. Some consider this fruit as a “Superfood” and have been used for its wide range of potential benefits from cancer prevention to erectile dysfunction. Goji Berries are a staple in traditional Chinese medicine.

What are the Benefits of Goji Berries?

Goji Berries are becoming a lot more popular in mainstream diets and foods, as well as being more accessible in stores. So, what are the many benefits of Goji Berries? Although there are several, we will go over the ones we find most interesting and beneficial to us.

  • With the number of vitamins and antioxidants found in Goji Berries, these fruits can be used to boost the immune system, therefore helping protect against the flu virus, although we do not recommend the Goji Berry as a replacement for the Flu Shot.
  • If you have a sweet tooth, these tasty berries may be able to satisfy that craving and potentially lower blood sugar, improve sugar tolerance, alleviate insulin resistance, and improve cells that help produce insulin.
  • Goji Berry (referred to as Lycium) in our .. fertility™ supplement is used as a main ingredient for findings of its ability to increase sperm quality and testosterone levels. Some research of Goji Berries even suggests that the fruit can be an alternative to the popular, mainstream erectile dysfunction prescriptions.
  • These super fruits have also been tied to the overall well-being with increased energy levels, ability to focus and quality of sleep, with some test participants even reporting better digestion, calming of stress and lowering fatigue.

Are Goji Berries Safe and How Can I Benefit from them?

Goji berries are safe and do not usually cause any major side effects. Many stores now sell dried Goji Berries, that are similar to raisins, and can be eaten by themselves or added in a number of foods such as trail mix, oatmeal, yogurt, salads and desserts.

We recognize that Goji Berries can be expensive, and we do not recommend buying cheaper bulk options as cheaper brands have been reported to have sulfites. For this reason, we’d like to give you the National Health Services (NHS) recommendation for alternatives with the same nutritional values such as: Strawberries and blueberries, bell peppers, tropical fruits, leafy greens, wheatgrass, pomegranate juice, and green tea.

With the many benefits and studies of the Wolfberry, we chose a few to go over with you, but the National Institute of Health has the full breakdown and chemical compound for you here if you are interested, which has just been updated as of January 2019. Let us know what your favorite benefit of the Goji Berry is in the comment section!
