What is Cardio Exercise?
Cardio exercise is short for cardiovascular exercise which is a type of exercise that is intended to increase your heart rate and blood circulation. This type of exercise is considered one of the best ways to burn off those stubborn calories and fats. Even though it’s not the only way to burn off calories cardio exercise drastically speeds up the process of burning fat. there are many types of “cardio” you can do at home, which makes this type of exercise really easily accessible to anyone. The key is intensity, as the intensity escalates, more calories are burned.
Different Types Of Cardio:
- Jump rope
- Jumping jacks
Some of these are only accessible at your local gym but some you can try at home!
Pros of Running:
Running is a great way to get your daily cardio because it gets the heart racing, and it has potential to burn a lot of calories. You can divide running into 3 different variants; sprinting, jogging, and fast walking. Like I said previously, the intensity is key. Sprinting will obviously burn more calories than jogging. For example, if a male who weighs 200lbs sprints on and off for an hour he has potential to burn up to 1000 calories! Now I know sprinting on and off for a WHOLE hour can be very challenging so we recommend working at your own pace and creating a routine that works well for you.
Typically a good routine is to run for a minimum of 30 minutes per day for 5 days a week. This can have a tremendous effect on your health and can lead to drastic weight loss. With all this being said running does come with massive drawbacks.
Cons Of Running: Running is not meant to build or maintain muscle, it is strictly for burning fat and calories. Running can also take its toll on your ankles and knees, consider running on hikes or using a treadmill.
Pros of Jumping Rope:
Jumping rope is another cardio exercise that you can do at home daily because all you need is, well the jump rope itself. Everyone knows the stereotype that was put on the map by Rocky himself, I’m talking about how every boxer somehow adds jump rope into their exercise routine. A boxer wouldn’t put such a vigorous workout into their routine for no reason. The fact is, jump rope burns more calories per minute than any other exercise! It also greatly benefits your footwork, which is why you see boxers jump rope or just athletes in general. There is actually no cons to jump rope, this exercise is well rounded and versatile.
Example of a jump rope workout:
Do 1-minute intervals for 30 minutes with 30 second rest time.
Pros Of Jumping Jacks:
Jumping jacks work out your body similarly to jumping rope except you can do them basically anywhere and you can switch it up with different variants like jumping jacks mixed with push-ups. While you do jumping jacks you have to potential to lose 100 calories in just 10 minutes!
Cons Of Jumping Jacks:
they severely tax your ankle joints and kneecaps.
