Poria is a fungus that grows on pine tree roots. It resembles a mushroom, often taking the shape of an irregular oval. Some poria grow larger than others, but they’re always brown on the outside and white on the inside. The sclerotium of poria, or the thread-like fibers found in the plant structure, are used medicinally.
The chemical compounds in the sclerotium are known to sedate and soothe nervousness, making it an effective treatment against stress. With its mind-calming properties, poria also helps against anxiety, insomnia, and headaches.
