Please Don’t Kill My Vibes
We have all been in some sort of rut in our lives; probably in every aspect of our lives. Some stints last longer than others and they vary in their depth of lousiness. But it seems there are always people who just appear to have it easier than us. They never look like they have any struggles, don’t have to fight any demons, have perfect hair days, and their scoop of ice cream always stays on the cone. (Pshh, sheer sorcery!) These people are typically electric to be around and attract the crowd, no matter where they are. Many of us, mere mortals, would brush it off, stick with the proletariat mentality (thanks to the Marx theory), and move on with our ever frustrating lives. Actually, there’s another way.
Looking deeper at those glowing few of whom, from sun up to sun down (and well into the after hours of the night) seemingly glide through life with ease, here is what we have found…
Their vibe changes everything.
The thing about happiness is that it’s actually a mental state, a way of life. We see only what we choose to and this greatly affects the world around us. SO how do you start this transformation from a negativity caterpillar to a positivity butterfly? Change your mind set. Change your vibe.
Practically every day we fill our head with negative thoughts. From sulking over the fact that we can’t afford that super awesome, uber expensive sports car or hate the fact that we are so single that we’re probably known as the crazy cat lady in our apartment complex… (can you have too many cats?) What you may not know is you are actually stopping yourself from changing your own life. Both positive and negative thoughts impact neurological functioning of the brain. This means that when you are saying things to yourself (good or bad), you start to believe them. You don’t have to be Dr. Phil to know that changing your thoughts, changes your life.
An astonishing example of the power of positive thoughts:
A study was done with a group of maids who spend their entire shifts on their feet. The entire group said they had little to no exercise on a daily basis and did not recognize their job as anything athletic. They were divided into two groups, one was told that by working their shifts, they were actually exceeding the daily recommended amount of exercise they needed (group 1). The other group was not (group 2). After a month of working their usual shifts, an astonishing 67% of group 1 lost weight. They didn’t do anything differently, their perception changed. They now viewed their job as exercise and automatically started doing more athletic activities, like taking the stairs. The brain is constantly adapting to our thought patterns and directs the rest of our organs accordingly.
Our brain is a very strong asset that we want on our team on the quest towards ultimate life radness. And controlling it is easier than you may think.
Affirmations. Mantras. Statements. Meditation. Self-talk. Positive Thoughts. Happy Thoughts.
Whatever you want to call them, they are good thoughts that you have. By repeating things that are motivational, positive, and strong, we change our vibe. We start to believe these mantras, they consume our thoughts and behavior; ultimately inviting the right situations into our life. This is also known as the Law of Attraction (LOA). Here’s an easy step-by-step guide…
1. Identify negative talk (i.e. I suck at running)
2. Create positive affirmations (i.e. I am getting better at running. I love to run.)
3. Replace the negative with the positive.
Write, read, say, hear, feel, believe.
At first, it may feel silly and even a bit forced, but there’s a reason Olympic athletes use affirmations and visualization techniques before competitions. It works. By taking your thought process into your control, you can decide what your life looks like.
As shown in quantum physics, our thoughts and consciousness create our reality.
SO the next time you’re just in a horrible mood, change it. Replace those negative thoughts with positive, affirming ones and watch your life change. The way we see ourselves and the world impact who we are and what we do. With this new super power under your belt, you don’t have to worry about anyone or anything killing your vibe.
